RND Athletics - Fall 2010 Preview
Sunday, 29 August 2010

Martin Freundorfer & the Sr Boys Volleyball team will look to repeat
The 2009-2010 athletic season was one to remember at RND, with Panther teams winning twelve team championships through the year - six in the fall alone. Here's a look at what to you'll see around RND this coming fall.

Junior boys volleyball will look to win their sixth KASSAA championship in eight years, while the junior girls basketball squad look for trophy number ten in a long string of local dominance.  The two-time defending champion cross country team will look for the midget and junior aged runners moving up to continue to put up strong results, while the ever growing field hockey squad will try to make it two in a row despite graduating some key players.

The RND senior girls basketball team captured their first KASSAA crown in over twenty years last fall, and will field a strong, experienced squad once again this year.  The biggest target in the city may be the defending provincial champion senior boys volleyball team - returning several key players while adding some strength from the aforementioned juniors.

Jory McDonald will help lead the way back to KASSAA
Buoyed by the success of the CATS football program, the RND football teams will look to build on some momentum picked up in regular season play last year.  The juniors will have a host of grade nines to choose from when tryouts begin, while the seniors return players in key positions and add some veteran junior talent.

Tryouts will begin during the first week of school.  Keep an eye on the RND Scoreboard for times and locations, as well as scheduling,  forms and general athletic department information.  New transfer rules are in effect this school year, so new students to RND should pay particular attention to the Scoreboard, and speak to any potential coach about your transfer.  Come out to support the RND teams during the KASSAA season.

Gr. Nine Orientation Day
Sunday, 29 August 2010

ImageStudents in Grade 9 are invited to attend an Orientation Day at RND on Wednesday, September 1st.  Students are asked to bring two separate cheques to the orientation day - one to cover the Book Deposit ($100.00 postdated for February 1st, 2011) and a second to cover the Student Activity Fee ($35.00).  The grade 9 student activity fee includes a Student Activity card, an agenda book, a school t-shirt and the school approved combination lock for use on school lockers.  Please ensure that the student's name is indicated on the front of the cheques.

At the Orientation Day, grade nine students will be able to receive all of their semester one books from the bookroom (pre-packaged for pick-up in the library), locate and secure their lockers, find their classrooms prior to the first day of class, and meet some students and staff.  We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, September 1st.

ImageClasses at RND will begin on Tuesday, September 7th for all students in all grades.  The school uniform is required from the first day of classes on.  Please note the differences in procedure for the different grades as listed below.  All students will receive an up to date timetable on the first day of school.

Grade 9

Grade 9 students are to bring their enclosed timetable and report to the cafetorium at the Russell St. entrance upon arrival.  There will be a brief assembly where you will receive further directions regarding period one classes.

Aboriginal Self-Identification
Thursday, 02 September 2010

ImageIn September 2009, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board implemented a Voluntary, Confidential Self -Identification procedure. Self-Identification is a way for parents and guardians of students under 18 and students over 18 to let the Algonquin and Lakeshore schools know if a student is of Aboriginal ancestry.

The process is voluntary and the information gathered will be kept confidential. No proof of ancestry is required. Students already attending school can indicate their Aboriginal ancestry on the student update form or by filling out the Voluntary, Confidential Aboriginal Self-Identification form at anytime through out the school year. New students or students changing schools can self-identify at the time of registration.
